The way I see it....
I agree conference stability helps but UVA does a better job of funding their Olympic sports. I don't know if they provide more non-athletic scholarship money to their athletes than Tech, but UVA's endowment is much larger than Tech's. UVA's academic brand also helps them land athletes from the wealthy eastern suburbs. Take a look at their lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, rowing, … rosters. Tech is making progress but from what I've been observing the past few years, I don't see a NCAA team national championship coming any time soon. We would have to sign an extraordinary athlete like Michael Vick or Angela Tincher to have a shot. If Tech would've had Michael Vick on some of the better over all teams in the 2000's (especially the 2004 and 2005 teams), Tech might have won a team title. If Angela Tincher played on this season's softball team, there's no telling how far the team would've gotten in the College Softball World Series. The stars just haven't aligned for that magical national championship season. Hopefully, I will be able to experience that in my lifetime, but time is running out for many of us Hokies.
